When everything feels urgent – emails, research projects, funding application – do you find it hard to decide what deserves your focus first? And is your thesis falling off the cliff most of the time?
What would it look like to protect just one uninterrupted block of time for your thesis every day – even if it means saying ‘not right now’ to emails and colleagues?
Are you longing for a clear structure for your whole life, that prioritises your thesis but also takes your other projects into account and allows for some free time to feel good in your body?
Here’s what you will achieve in 2 weeks, 16th – 26th of September:
“Within the 2 week “Thesis First” course for doctoral candidates, you will learn how to stop the time sink of decision making processes and finally prioritise your thesis, no matter what your professional or personal life throws at you during your week.”
Why is your progress so important to me?
I am Dr. Luisa Demant, mind body coach and yoga teacher dedicated to helping doctoral candidates thrive. My academic path has taken me through roles at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, TU Dortmund, and TU Munich, where I was involved in teaching, research and faculty duties. Navigating the pressures of academia, I was longing for a holistic approach to get support in my thesis writing process, but sadly I couldn’t find what I was looking for.
After completing my doctorate, I trained in yoga and mindfulness, creating a unique blend of academic writing support infused with self-reflection, yoga and mindful practices. This integrated method has already helped over 200 doctoral candidates to progress with clarity and confidence.
Originally from Germany, I now live in East London with my husband, our daughter and Merlin our cat. I love trail running, cycling and being outside.
I continue to teach in both Germany and the UK, deeply caring about guiding others toward balance on their academic path and beyond.
Here is what to expect:
Step 1:
Gain clarity about all the areas of your thesis, other work and life that are important to you and reflect on what areas are being prioritised at the moment. What needs to be moved to create space for your thesis?
Step 2:
Clarify your priorities and reconnect with your motivation. Reflect on your long-term vision, and define the goals that will guide your daily actions.
Step 3:
Set boundaries and communicate them well with your team members, family and friends. Make your thesis your absolute priority for 2 weeks. Design a schedule that is ambitious but realistic. Clear the decks and get to work.
Step 4:
Come back to all areas in your life and design the best and most balances structure for yourself, so you can thrive and make progress, saving time and energy by knowing what happens when in your week.
Buddy System
You’ll be paired with a fellow participant for a brief daily check-in to share your goals and celebrate your achievements. This way, you’ll stay accountable while respecting both your own time and that of others.
Goal:
By the end of the course, you will have a clear understanding of a realistic and balanced structure for writing your PhD, while at the same time being a valued colleague, staying on top of ancillary work and having time for family and friends and your hobby.
Some inspirational transformation from the last Powerboost Motivation course:
"Mindset change from “Shit I am too slow, nothing works.” to “Wow, I am doing it, I enjoy."
